Leading in the Middle East: A Global Crisis - Nu Leadership Series

An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows. Dwight D. Eisenhower

As the Middle East spirals into another crisis, global leaders wonder how to solve the Hezbollah and Israel war. This situation has sent a shockwave through the international community. America stands as a possible loser. Arab Muslims watch America’s move and view it as Western Imperialism. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice races to save the Middle East. Americans again braces for another threat of a “Third World War.”

Let’s go deeper. America is dealing with the Arab world a different cultural setting. It uses Western perspective. Clearly, this perspective is showcased in the media where Middle East experts of Arab descent are absent. Therefore, the Western perception often skews our coverage and understanding.

Finally, our American values appear to be in conflict with the international community. For example, America is the democracy builder. Can we, however, allow Iraqi or any other Middle East country to become an Islamic state? It isn’t in America’s best interest. America is Israel’s ally. Can America remain neutral in this Middle East conflict? Would happens when the international community’s values differs with a Super Power?

Therefore, these international conflicts may place a global leader at odds with his strategic thinking and his core values.

Middle East Set to Be Third Largest Property Investor

Tony M Horrell, international director for Jones Lang LaSalle, told Gulf News record oil revenues of the Gulf countries and the diversification of regional economies is leading Middle East investors to make significant investments in property outside their home markets.

“After a few years of absence, Middle East funds are again investing heavily in the US, followed by Europe.”

According to Jones Lang LaSalle’s latest Global Real Estate Capital Report, Middle East investors spent nearly $6 billion in buying foreign commercial real estate in the first half of 2006, $4 billion in the US and $2 billion in Europe, mainly the UK.

“My estimate is that this figure for the Middle East will get to $15 billion by the end of the year on the basis of the transactions that are under way,” Horrell said.

That would make the Middle East the world’s third-largest buyer of commercial real estate in foreign markets after the US and Germany, he added.

Jones Lang LaSalle, which recently acquired Dubai’s RSP Group, has identified the GCC region as a key source of global capital against a backdrop of the rising investment by Middle Eastern investors in international real estate markets. The main buyers include private equity funds and family offices.

The year 2006 is also on target to be another record year as total direct real estate investments approach $600 billion, up from some $480 billion in 2005, according to Jones Lang LaSalle.

The Blood of Fools is about to Pollute the Sands of the Middle East

What is it with all this clash over religion and all these wars in the Middle East over the last 2000 years? It is amazing that cultures and civilizations cannot learn from their mistakes, as they are so busy killing each other, using trickery and Machiavellian tactics that they are preventing their culture from coming into the present period.

As World War III approaches and The Blood of Fools is about to pollute the Sands of the Middle East one has to ask why? What is it all for anyway? Some old text and some ancient religion that no one can simply dump and move on with their lives? Why do people insist on blowing themselves up for a figure in literature in a text they most likely cannot even read and rely on someone else to tell them what it says?

Is there any doubt the there will be more wars in the Middle East in this decade? Namely Syria and Iran and is it any doubt that The Blood of Fools is about to Pollute the Sands of the Middle East. Look the sand is already the color it is for a reason and does not need to be painted read because a few disruptive humans have led the countless masses in a death march over radical cult like beliefs? Will someone knock some sense into these people or have they already banged their head on the floor enough already? Consider this in 2006.

Middle East Media Pro-Hizbollah Fabricating Stories

Many people are watching the Middle East war between Hezbollah and Israel, which unfortunately is being fought in Lebanon, due to the fact that Hezbollah has basically taken over the government and doing whatever they want including starting a war with their next-door neighbors in Israel.

This is rather unfortunate indeed, however Hezbollah is a known International Terrorist Organization, which is well funded to the tune of $100 million per year by Iran. Perhaps you’ll recall that Iran has promised to; Blow Israel off the Map. And The President of Iran means it too.

The Middle Eastern media is falsely reporting the war between Hezbollah and Iran and any up server with a neutral viewpoint would be able to see this evening immediately. Hezbollah has claimed to shoot down and F-16 fighter jet and claimed to have captured two of the pilots.

This is false because the F-16 only hold one person. But this is just one of hundreds of fabricated stories by Hezbollah to help rally support in the Arab community and get more people to join their ranks to fight alongside them to kill the Jews.

Most people would believe that it is wrong to take out civilian targets such as news media outlets and yet these Middle Eastern news media stations inciting more violence and escalating the war due to this massive barrage of falsehood propaganda. If more Arabs joined the international terrorist organization of Hezbolla then there is a good chance they might be killed.

All because the Middle Eastern media feels that it is okay to continue the purported lies of the events in the war by Hezbollah. This is unfortunate because it means more people will die unnecessarily.

It is hard to have a cease-fire or a truce or even talks of understanding and agreement on tolerance between two worlds, which are clearly so far apart. There can never be peace in the Middle East when the media owns the minds of the people and they are promoting further bloodshed. Blame it on the media. Please consider this in 2006.

Freight Forwarding Prices Rise in The Middle East Following Hezbollah Attacks

The fighting in Lebanon which started after Hezbollah militants kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and began firing rockets into Northern Israel, is producing serious consequences for the freight forwarding industry in the Middle East.

This article discusses what has caused the violence and the impact that it is having on the region’s freight industry.

Hezbollah first emerged in Lebanon in the 1980s. It is a terrorist organisation committed to the destruction and annihilation of the State of Israel. Funded by Iran which has also expressed the desire to “wipe Israel off the face of the earth”, Hezbollah actions have recently provoked bitter fighting in Lebanon.

On July 12th this year, Hezbollah militants kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and started firing rockets at towns in Northern Israel. This prompted Israel to target Hezbollah positions in Lebanon to try and rescue its soldiers and prevent further attacks on its civilians.

Fighting has gradually escalated on both sides causing significant civilian and economic problems in the region. Amongst these are the difficulties that have been created for the freight forwarding industry. The British Chamber of Shipping recently declared the coast of Lebanon and Israel a war zone which has affected the cost and passage of freight in the region. The declaration means that UK freight shipping companies delivering cargo to the area will receive some kind of war bonus. The size of this bonus will depend on the contracts involved.

According to recent reports by Arab News, Middle East freight forwarding companies have increased their shipping rates to Lebanon by as much as between 33% and 63%. The price of forwarding a twenty foot container is now between $550 and $900 whilst a forty foot container will cost around $1000 to transport.

It is hoped that a ceasefire agreement will come into effect shortly. If this happens and if Hezbollah militants are kept in line by the Lebanese army, the freight forwarding industry in the Middle East may gradually return to normal.

Franchising in The Middle East There Will Bring Significant Opportunity for US Based Franchisors

As stability emerges in the Middle East there will be significant opportunity for the Franchising Community. Arab Franchising appears to be of interest for those seeking economic growth in much of that region of the World. They are more excited about economic expansion than we are in the US. They seem to understand the benefits of many small businesses employing millions of people and rightfully so. Check out this article:

http://www.ameinfo.com/news/Detailed/34961.html .

Any comments call the IFA International Franchise Association or go to their website for more information; http://www.franchise.org

Franchising has the potential to bring the world together and unite us all as one, if we will let it. Capitalism pushes people up, while and socialism and communism push people down. Franchising by its very definition is the purest business format mirroring free market capitalism. In the United States franchising is going through a tough time right now with the over regulations and incessant litigation.

Maybe we ought to keep our eyes on the ball at home as we are participating in building up the Middle East with small business operations through franchising. Participating in the greatest business format in the recorded history of mankind is indeed a truly noble cause. Up lifting millions of Middle Easterners with meaningful work and good paying jobs is a gift that no other nation can give. We are so fortunate in this country to have entrepreneurs who have the where with all to provide such well thought out and perfected businesses in all industry sectors. I challenge anyone to deny that.
